Fall. Festivals. Pumpkins. Leaf peeping. Together they're the full-proof recipe for fun, especially if the recipe calls for The Damariscotta Pumpkinfest & Regatta. Here's a brief overview of this amazing and unique event and unaffiliated events and sponsors.
The 11th anniversary Pumpkinfest & Regatta takes place Oct. 1-9, 2017 with parades, performances, and celebrations of all things pumpkin throughout the Twin Villages of Newcastle and Damariscotta. Thousands of visitors from North and South America, Europe, Asia and Australia, to name a few places, will flock to the area to savor the sights and sounds of what's become one of New England's premier fall family festivals.
It all starts with the volunteer pumpkin growers weigh-off on Sunday, Oct.1 with the Great Pumpkin Commonwealth (GPC) Official Weigh-off. There's a $10,000 Total Purse PLUS $1,000 for a New Maine-State Record. (The Volunteer Growers Weigh-off, with its $2,500 Total Purse, takes place on Saturday, Sep. 30.)
A week of amazing activities follows, culminating in some of the most anticipated and memorable highlights of Columbus Day Weekend, including giant pumpkin carving/decorating, pumpkinboat building, buskers, street performers, and concerts, the not-to-be-missed Pumpkin Catapult & Giant Pumpkin Slingshot Fun, a pumpkin derby, pie eating and dessert contests, as well as the 180-foot Giant Pumpkin Drop and Kids Pumpkin Hunt, and the incredible Pumpkin Regatta in Damariscotta Harbor.
